Biography:

Olufunke Adewumi Ajiboye (PhD, FNSP, FPPCCardiopulmonary, FCIA) retired as a Director of Physiotherapy from teaching hospital where she doubled as an Associate lecturer in the sister tertiary Institution. She is currently working with Chrisland University as Senior lecturer and Ag. Head of Department. She has more than 17 published articles in peer reviewed journals of international standard and have presented my research outcomes in more than 20 conferences both at national and international level, many of which won Awards both at national and international level. Her PhD thesis won the Best Thesis Award from the College of Medicine of her university in 2014.  She is a member of  many Professional Bodies,won  18 Awards /Recognitions /Commendations both nationally and internationally, have  attended over 60 Workshops, Conferences & Seminars.  She is a chartered Administrator,  a seasoned researcher, an experienced clinician and an astute teacher

Abstract:

Despite remarkable progress in heart failure (HF) management, fatigue, Breathlessness, exercise intolerance and muscle wasting remain the hallmarks of the disease leading to impaired quality of life and capacity for activities of daily living (ADLs). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise training on the quality of life and Upper limb muscle strength of individuals with bi-ventricular heart failure (BVF). Sixty-six subjects with chronic bi-ventricular heart failure (BVF) in Class II and III of New York Heart Association (mean age 54.0 ± 1.6 years) recruited from a Nigerian tertiary Hospital participated in the study. They were randomized into either the exercise group or control group.  These subjects were on their prescribed medications and underwent education/counselling sessions. In addition, subjects in the exercise group performed aerobic and resistance training thrice weekly for 12 weeks. The disease-specific QoL was assessed using Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) while SF-36 was used to assess the generic form of QoL. Hand Grip Dynamometer was  used to assess the grip strength and One Repetition maximum to determine the upper limb strength of these patients pre and post intervention. The results showed that the exercise group had significant improvement in all domains of QoL while no significant improvement was observed in controls (p < 0.05) except in the Knowledge and Perception domains. There was statistically significant improvement in muscle strength and hand grip of those in the exercise group.. In conclusion, exercise training improves both the quality of life and upper limb strength of individuals with bi-ventricular failure.

Abstract:

Background: Low Back Pain (LBP) is enormously common health problem and most of subjects experience it at some point of their life. Kinesio-taping is one of therapy methods introduced for studied cases with nonspecific low back pain.

Objectives: To look at how Kinesio-taping affects studied cases with non-specific low back pain in terms of discomfort, range of motion and back muscular strength.

Subjects: 40 mechanical LBP patients aged 20-40 years had been assigned haphazardly into two groups; they had been selected from outpatient clinic, KasrAl-Aini Hospital, Cairo University.

Methods: Group A: 20 patients received the I-shape KT longitudinally and conventional physiotherapy program. Group B: 20 studied cases received application of the KT horizontally and conventional physiotherapy program. Pain had been measured by visual analog scale, Range of motion had been measured by Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and strength had been measured by an isokinetic dynamometer before and after therapy. Therapy sessions had been three times weekly for four weeks.

Results: Groups (A and B) discovered decrease in pain and disability and rise in their flexion, extension ROM and peak torque of trunk extensor after end of 4 weeks of program. mean values of pain scale after therapy had been 3.7 and 5.04 in groups A and B. Mean values of Disability scale after treatment had been 7.87 and 9.35 in groups A and B. mean values of ROM of flexion had been 28.06 and 24.53 in groups A and B. Mean values of ROM of extension had been 13.43 and 10.73 in groups A and B. Mean values of Peak torque of lumbar extensors were 65.43 and 63.22 in groups A and B. Though, participants who received the I-shape KT longitudinally as well as conventional physiotherapy program (group A), discovered more reduction in pain and disability and more improvement in ROM of flexion, extension and Peak torque of lumbar extensors value (P<0.001) after therapy program.

Conclusion: Therapeutic longitudinal Kinesio-taping application with conventional physiotherapy will be more valuable than Therapeutic horizontal Kinesio-taping application with conventional physiotherapy when treating nonspecific low back pain studied cases.

Abstract:

Purpose: This study investigates the acute effects of Graston and myofascial release on Thoraco-Lumbar Fascia (TLF) on lumbar Range of Motion (ROM), lumbar and cervical proprioception and trunk muscle endurance in healthy young adults.

Method: Twenty-four healthy young individuals were included in the study. Individuals were randomly divided into two groups as Graston Technique (GT) (n=12) and Myo-Fascial Release (MFR) (n=12). GT group received a fascial treatment with a graston instrument and the MFR group (n=12) received manual myofascial treatment. Both techniques were applied for 10 minutes and as a single session. Lumbar ROM (goniometer), lumbar proprioception (digital inclinometer), cervical proprioception (CROM device) and trunk muscle endurance (with McGill Endurance Test) were evaluated before and after treatment.

Results: Age, gender and body mass index of individuals in both groups were similar (p>0.05). In both GT and MFR groups, an increase in ROM in the flexion direction (p<0.05) and a decrease in the angle of deviation in proprioception in the flexion direction were determined (p<0.05). Neither technique had a significant effect on cervical proprioception and trunk muscle endurance (p>0.05). In addition, no difference was found between the effectiveness of Graston and myofascial release (p>0.05).

Conclusion: This study showed that Graston and myofascial release applied to TLF in healthy young adults effectively improve lumbar ROM and proprioception in the acute period. Considering these results, both Graston and myofascial release can be used to provide elasticity of TLF and improve proprioceptive return.

Abstract:

Background: Musculo-Skeletal Disorders (MSD) is one of the most common and important occupational health problems in working populations around the world. Some occupational groups, such as teachers, are more prone to musculoskeletal disorders due to occupational characteristics. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and related factors among female teachers in Kabul.

Methods: This study is a descriptive-analytical epidemiological study that involved 285 teachers form public and private school in the study randomly based on the inclusion criteria. Through relevant questionnaires, information was collected from personal, occupational and psychological characteristics.

Results: The prevalence of MSD in the six-month period was 55% in the lumbar region, 43% in the neck, 41% in the knee, 39% in the back, 30% in the ankle, 28% in the wrist, 26% in the shoulder, 20% in the thigh and 15% in the elbow. There was a significant relationship between weight, age, level of education, working hours, work experience, sports, body mass index, salary and education (P<0/05). Writing on the board in the classroom, inappropriate posture during teaching, reviewing homework and checking students' exam papers, lack of desk and chair were identified as risk factors related to this disorder.

Conclusion: The prevalence of MSD is high among female teachers in Kabul. Factors such as weight, age, level of education, working hours, work experience, exercise, body mass index, smoking and education significantly increase the risk of this type of disorder among female teachers.
